West Tower boasts a unique history, built in 1785, this splendid house was the home of shipping magnate Lord Alfred Holt. West Tower derives its name from the tower located on the west part of the house. This elevated position allowed staff to see his ships on their journey from North America and India. As the vessels approached Formby Point, the master of the house could then be notified that his ships were approximately four to five hours from docking in the Merseyside region.
